The Scent

Saffron registers first, dry and slightly leathery, before the Bulgarian rose pushes through in full bloom. There is a spiced warmth from the cinnamon that keeps the rose from turning powdery or soft, and this is where Rose Oud earns its reputation as a "masculine" take on a traditionally feminine note, though that framing has always undersold it. Within twenty minutes the litchi appears, a strange, almost confusing addition that reads as watery sweetness cutting through the spice. Some skin chemistry pushes the litchi forward enough that it briefly smells more like fruit punch than perfume, a split reaction worth knowing about before wearing it somewhere formal. That phase passes. The tincture of rose in the heart deepens the topnote rose rather than repeating it, giving the impression of two different roses layered on top of each other, one bright and one darker.
