The Scent

Mandarin hits first, and it is the good kind: ripe, slightly tart, almost candied at the opening, with orange and lemon filling out the citrus chord without making it feel redundant. There is real brightness here, the kind that makes you think of peels crushed between your fingers rather than a bottle of fruit juice. Within the first few minutes basil starts threading through, and this is where the composition gets interesting. It is not the aggressive, sharp basil of a cologne or a green fougere. The drydown pulls these elements into a soft, woody base built on Virginia cedar and Java vetiver. The vetiver here is not smoky or earthy in the typical sense.
