DesirToxic L'Intense
DesirToxic L'Intense arrived in 2024 as the concentrated, more shadowed sibling to M. Micallef's original DesirToxic, built by perfumer Thierry Romeo around a spiced, resinous heart that leans darker and denser than the name's playful energy suggests. It keeps the house's signature opulence, the kind of ornate, layered construction M. Micallef is known for, but pushes the intensity up a notch with saffron and cannabis accord sitting alongside a thick amber-patchouli base. Aromatica carries the DesirToxic L'Intense decant in Bangladesh in all available sizes, so the full concentrated version is easy to try before deciding if the darker route suits you better than the original.
Fragrance Notes
Top: Bergamot, Cardamom, Lemon, Saffron
Heart: Black Currant, Mint, Tonka Bean, Cannabis, Cinnamon
Base: Musk, Patchouli, Moss, Benzoin, Ambergris
The Scent
Saffron announces itself first, sharp and slightly leathery, cut by bergamot and lemon so the opening never turns heavy too early. Cardamom threads through underneath, giving the citrus a warm, peppery edge rather than a clean one. Within minutes the black currant pushes forward, dark and slightly boozy, and this is where the cannabis accord shows up, green, resinous, a little dusty, sitting next to a cool flick of mint that keeps the middle from turning syrupy. Cinnamon warms the currant further, and tonka bean starts folding in a soft, almost bready sweetness that tempers the spice. The transition from top to heart happens fast, within the first twenty minutes, and the mint-cannabis pairing is the part people either love immediately or need a few wears to appreciate, since it reads as unexpectedly herbal against the fruit and spice around it. As the heart settles, patchouli rises from underneath, earthy and slightly damp, and moss adds a grey, forest-floor quality that grounds the sweetness. The dry-down is where benzoin and ambergris take over, turning the whole composition soft, resinous, and warm, with musk smoothing the edges so nothing feels sharp anymore. What started spiced and green ends up amber-toned and skin-close, patchouli and musk doing most of the work by the final stretch.
When to Wear
This suits cold-weather evenings, think a late dinner in Gulshan or Dhanmondi during the winter months when the air has some bite to it. The saffron-amber combination reads formal enough for a wedding reception or a dressed-up gathering, and pairs naturally with pieces from the M. Micallef collection if you're building out a rotation of the house's darker, more layered work.
Who Is It For
Someone who already owns a few resinous, spice-forward fragrances and wants one more that leans unconventional rather than safe. It works for a wearer drawn to green, slightly rough textures next to sweetness, not someone looking for a straightforward gourmand or a clean citrus.
If you enjoy Gntonic, another M. Micallef release built on that same ornate, richly layered French-with-Middle-Eastern-soul foundation, it's worth comparing side by side. Browse the full M. Micallef collection at Aromatica.
Available as an authentic decant in Bangladesh at Aromatica in 3ml, 5ml, 9ml, and 15ml.
